Requesting an adjustment
These adjustments are intended to remove obstacles, so that you can participate in your study programme and take examinations. The content and level of the education and examinations remain the same.
What are examination adjustments, or teaching and learning adjustments?
Examination adjustments
You can apply for examination adjustments if you require support during exams.
Examples include:
- Extra time in examinations, e.g. for students with dyslexia
- Use of foam earplugs, e.g. for students with AD(H)D
- Use of text-to-speech software, e.g. for students with a visual impairment
Teaching and learning adjustments
You can apply for teaching and learning adjustments if you need support during lectures and tutorials.
Examples include:
- Use of individual equipment or hearing loops by lecturers, e.g. for students with a hearing impairment
- Adjusted attendance requirements, e.g. for students with a chronic illness
- Use of special furniture during lectures, e.g. for students with a physical disability
Each request is assessed individually to determine what is appropriate.
What to expect
- Your request will be handled with care and confidentiality.
- Lecturers are only informed of what is needed to implement the adjustment, not of your personal situation.
- Adjustments are intended to create equal opportunities, not to offer an advantage.
- The practical implementation of adjustments may vary between faculties, programmes or courses.

Applying for a teaching and learning adjustment
Preferably, you should apply three months before the start of your studies. If that is not possible, your request will still be processed, though it may not be implemented in time.
Teaching and learning adjustments must be requested through the study adviser of your programme.
