Request facilities on time
Make sure that you request a facility (or facilities) on time, so that your degree programme has enough time to arrange it for you. You must request education facilities at least four months before the start of your studies and examination facilities at least six weeks before your examination.
Bear in mind that facilities at the UvA may deviate from the facilities recommended by experts or other educational institutions. This means that the UvA won’t automatically offer you the same facilities as the ones you enjoyed in secondary school or at another higher education institution.
Examples of examination facilities
- Additional examination time.
- Laptop (only if you are severely physically disabled and always in consultation with the degree programme).
- Other examination facilities, depending on disability and necessity (in consultation with the degree programme).
Requesting examination facilities
Examples of financial facilities
- Allowance in the case of a study completion delay.
- Study allowance. In some cases, you may be able to request a study allowance from the municipality where you live. If you live in Amsterdam, you can find information about the study allowance (in Dutch) on the municipality’s website. This study allowance is intended for students with a disability who are partially or fully incapacitated for work.
- In some situations, the Education Executive Agency (DUO) may extend your performance-related grant. To qualify, you must have incurred a study completion delay of at least six months as a result of your disability (and/or chronic illness). Book an appointment with a student counsellor to find out if this applies to you.
Examples of other facilities
- University Library facilities, including:
- conversion of books into PDF files
- text-to-speech software
- voice recognition software
- extra large screens
- rheumatism or RSI adaptations
- Accessible rooms/auditoriums: see the overview of wheelchair-accessible rooms and auditoriums and the overview of auditoriums with facilities for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. If you have any questions on this, please contact a student counsellor.
Require other facilities?
If you require facilities other than examination facilities, contact the study adviser of your degree programme. Do this at least 4 months before the start of your studies.
