The UvA offers basic adjustments and individual adjustments that ensure you can, among other things, participate in lectures and examinations. On this page you can read more about the available basic adjustments, how they are granted, their validity, and who you can contact if you have questions.

Important to know

  • Adjustments are not automatically available to every student.
  • Adjustments are always granted on the basis of an individual assessment by a student counsellor or study adviser.
  • This assessment takes your personal situation into account, as well as a relevant diagnosis or statement.

Validity within the UvA

Once an adjustment has been granted, it is valid throughout the entire UvA. You do not need to reapply for the adjustment if you take an elective or minor at another programme or faculty.

There are a few exceptions:

  • For practical examinations in programmes at the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry, basic examination adjustments do not apply automatically.
  • For joint degree programmes that fall under Vrije Universiteit (VU), you must also apply for the adjustment at the VU. Your student counsellor or study adviser can provide more information about this.

In these situations, the programme will always assess what is possible and appropriate.

What if you do not see your situation reflected?

There are two lists: one with examination adjustments, and one with teaching and learning adjustments. Both show what is possible, but it is not exhaustive. It may therefore be that the adjustment you need is not included in the overviews. This does not mean that there are no options. Where possible, the UvA looks for suitable individual adjustments.

Please consult the 2 lists:

Questions or doubts?

Do you have questions, are you unsure whether you are eligible for an adjustment, or do you not (fully) recognise your situation? Then contact a student counsellor (for examination adjustments) or a study adviser (for teaching and learning adjustments). They are happy to think along with you about what you need in order to study successfully.
