How to use your examination adjustment
How to use your examination adjustment
When an examination adjustment applies
Your assigned examination adjustment applies only to:
- Examinations you take during the period for which the adjustment has been granted.
- Examinations for courses you take at the UvA.
- Official on-site examinations, and not for (interim) tests or written assignments during classes.
Important agreements for exams with adjustments
Extra time
If your adjustment is extra time, you will receive:
- 15 extra minutes for exams shorter than 2 hours
- 30 extra minutes for exams of 2 hours or longer
More extra time than stated above is not possible, unless there is a very strong justification. In that case, make an appointment with a student counsellor.
Exam location
You will take your examination at the same location as other students, unless agreed otherwise.
Reporting to the invigilator
Always report to the invigilator before the examination, and state that you have an examination adjustment. arrangement. The invigilator will indicate where you should sit.
Other universities
Are you also taking courses at another university? If so, check with that institution whether and how you can use your adjustments there.
How long does your adjustment remain valid?
- Do you have a dyslexia statement issued during primary education, or an AD(H)D statement? In such cases, our student counsellors generally advise granting adjustments for the first year of study. After that year, you and the student counsellor will review whether the adjustments are still required for the remainder of your studies.
- For psychological complaints, the student counsellor will determine together with you how long the adjustments are needed.
You can always view the details and validity period of your assigned adjustments in SIS under "Personal details". Lecturers can see your assigned adjustments in Canvas.
Adjustments and resits
If you have registered for a course, you are automatically registered for both the exam and the resit (if you do not pass the first attempt). This also applies to your assigned adjustments.
