Fund due to the war in Gaza

Last modified on 02-05-2024 12:14
Given the anger and bewilderment of many UvA staff and students at the loss of life and destruction of educational infrastructure in Gaza, the UvA has set up a fund to provide assistance.

What is your study programme?

We do this in different ways. We offer financial aid to UvA students from the Palestinian territories or Israel who are in dire financial straits because of the war. We also want to give students and academics from Gaza the opportunity to come and study or work at the UvA. At the same time, we will initiate an exploratory study into long-term funding for academics in war zones.

Immediate help in case of dire financial straits

We offer financial aid to UvA students from the Palestinian territories or Israel who are in dire financial straits because of the war.

Criteria for applying

You must be enrolled as a student at the UvA, you must be able to prove that you were living in the Palestinian territories or Israel before you came to study at the UvA and that existing regulations do not apply to you, and there must be a demonstrable financial need related to the war between Israel and Hamas. Students can apply for the fund up until 1 July.

How to apply

A student counsellor will help you with the application. Together, you will look at what is needed. Make an appointment.

Exploratory study into future assistance

We will initiate an exploratory study into how best to provide other types of assistance in the long term. More information on this will follow at a later date.

Donations

Part of the fund was raised thanks to community donations. The Executive Board will double the amount raised.

You can donate to the fund through account number IBAN NL56INGB0005030111 in the name of  University of Amsterdam, citing ‘support from the academic community’.
