Students in secondary education experience increased pressure from schoolwork. This academic pressure can have negative long-term consequences for their mental health. Girls tend to experience more academic pressure and stress than boys. This difference may be related to the beliefs students hold about the origins of academic performance. Girls tend to attribute their success in school to their effort, while boys tend to attribute their success to their ability. The aim of this study is to investigate the mediating role of beliefs in ability and effort in the relation between gender and academic pressure. This study aims to provide more insight into the root of academic pressure and how to help students cope with this stress.
