In an ever-changing world, where remote work is reshaping the dynamics of teamwork, our tendency to favor our own social groups is increasingly being tested. This study investigates how interdependence can influence parochial cooperation, the tendency to favor members of one’s own group, and the role of remote work as a moderator. Parochial cooperation can help foster beneficial team behaviour and motivate employees in an organizational setting, especially in diverse teams. Interdependence, the co-dependency between individuals, specifically in a work setting, was hypothesized to increase parochial cooperation. Increased remote work hours were expected to decrease parochial cooperation due to a lack of physical proximity and rich non-verbal cues. Using data from three experience sampling questionnaires, completed by 188 participants, this study examines the association between interdependence, remote work and parochial cooperation.
