What is your study programme?

Student finance consists of a number of components, such as a (supplementary) grant, possibly a loan, and a student travel product. You'll be required to pay back the loan after you finish your studies. Only the student travel product and the (supplementary) grant may become non-repayable. Read more detailed information about study finance on the DUO websiteExternal link.

Student finance for international students

If you are an international student and under the age of 30, you could be entitled for student finance. Besides your age, the following factors will be taken into consideration: your degree programme, nationality and residency status. See the DUO websiteExternal link for more information.

Where do I apply for student finance?

You can apply for student finance in 3 steps via the DUO websiteExternal link.

Public transport: the student travel product

The student travel product entitles you to free or discounted travel by train, tram, bus and metro throughout the Netherlands. You can arrange the student travel productExternal link when you apply for student finance. It takes some time to arrange, so do this as soon as you can.

Extra grant for teachers

See the DUO website for information about the requirements to be met. If you're not entitled to student finance (anymore), you may be eligible for a teachers' grant (information in Dutch)External link.

Reinstatement basic grant
