About the GDPR

On 25 May 2018, the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will enter into effect and replace the Dutch Personal Data Protection Act (Wet bescherming persoonsgegevens, Wbp).

Objective of the GDPR

The objective of the GDPR is to protect personal data better, to make that protection the same across the EU and to safeguard the free traffic of personal data.

Processing personal data

The GDPR lays down rules for the processing of personal data. It makes more stringent demands on the documentation of the processing, the protection of personal data and the accountability towards data subjects than the Dutch Personal Data Protection Act.
