Studying during the exam period? Plan your visit

The first exam period of the year is approaching. From 22 January to 1 February, the Library will provide more study spaces and extended opening hours. If you plan to study during the exam weekend, the P.C. Hoofthuis will be open with 460 study places. Additionally, there's room for socializing: on 23 January, the UB Dinner will take place.

What is your study programme?

Due to its success, all 460 study places in the P.C. Hoofthuis will be available again during the exam weekend, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Access is only possible upon presentation of a valid UvA student card.

How can you find a quiet place to study peacefully?

During the exam period, it's essential to know which location is least crowded. You can find all extended opening hours and crowd indicators on the study places pageExternal link.

For booking project rooms or study cabinets, check UvA SpacefinderExternal link (Mapiq), inquire with your study association, or visit the library desk.

Guided study sessions during the exam period

Want optimal focus during the exam period? You can sign up for guided study sessions. These take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 13:00 to 18:30.

Collaborative studying is done in the dedicated Focus Room (room C.1.01) at the University Library Singel or online in a Microsoft Teams environment. There's a fixed schedule with time for studying, breaks, reflection, collaboration, and information sharing.

During exam periods, there is a tightened access policyExternal link. Keep in mind that the Library is only accessible with a valid UvA student or staff card.

Join the UB Dinner

On Tuesday, 23 January, another UB Dinner will take place, a cozy meal in the cafeteria of the University Library (Singel) where you can enjoy an hour in the company of fellow students. During this dinner, you also have the opportunity to learn more about the Library's cookbook collection. This edition is inspired by the theme 'Student Fare.' After the dinner, you can start your study session with renewed energy. The cost for the UB dinner is 5 euros.
