Nowadays, we are surrounded by innovation in technology and scientific discovery. While a significant portion of people trust science, others doubt its findings and express science skepticism. Research has brought attention to spirituality as an explanation for skepticism towards science. To better understand people’s motives, it is important to study what could explain science skepticism and what factors might play a role in shaping the relationship between spirituality and science. This project examined the relationship between spirituality and science skepticism, particularly focusing on social identity as a possible moderator. The results of an online survey confirmed the positive relationship between spirituality and science skepticism. However, no moderating effect of social identity was found. Limitations and suggestions for future research are discussed. Understanding the motives behind science skepticism can lay the groundwork for future possible interventions to increase science acceptance.
