A common room is a shared lounge where students and staff can relax between classes. It can also be used for a variety of activities, from meetings to drinks events or movie nights.

Roeterseiland Campus

The Common Room on Roeterseiland Campus is in room B1.25. The room may be used by all UvA staff and students. During the day it can be used by approximately 25 people. On request, it can be scaled up to a capacity of 80 people for specific events. 

The Common Room is a multifunctional space that can be used for various purposes, from meetings to having a drink after your last lecture. It can also used for lectures or movie nights. The room contains:

  • 3 sofas, 3 tables, chairs, 2 standing tables and a table football table
  • an amplifier with 2 speakers
  • kitchen utensils and refrigerators behind the bar
  • You can reserve a beamer with screen for use within building B/C/D

Economics and Business

For Economics and Business students, there's a common room in room E1.23 on the Roeterseiland Campus. There are tables and benches where you can study, have a meeting or relax after your lectures. During the day there's room for about 25 people. Besides studying and meeting, you can also play a game of table football here. There's also a simple coffee machine. You don't have to make a reservation to use the common room, you are always welcome to walk in!

Science Park: Brainwave

For students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science, there's a common room at Science Park called Brainwave. The Brainwave is located on the first floor of building A. 

During the day, you can use the room to study or work together on group projects. In the evening, from 17:00 until 22:00, you can relax and get drinks from the bar. The Brainwave Foundation is responsible for the Brainwave after 17:00. The board of the Brainwave Foundation consists of one member from each of the five student associations: ACD, Congo, NSA, Spectrum and VIA. 

The Brainwave has the following facilities:

  • Internet connection
  • Projector       
  • Audio installation + microphone (if there is a lecture in the room next to the Brainwave, you may not use this)
  • Table football table     
  • Beer tap with 3 connections      
  • Fridge for soft drinks
