Baanbrekers ('Trailblazers') is for students who are the first in their family to attend university and who enjoy meeting regularly with other first-generation students from their field of study. During an afternoon or evening, you'll participate in activities, work on your study skills and share a meal together with your fellow students.
You'll meet every month for 3 hours with others from your field of study. During these meetings, there is always an activity, such as a self-defence course or learning to meditate together. There's a different activity each time and it's organised in consultation with participating students.
After the activity, there's time to share a meal. Dietary requirements (halal, vegan, or gluten-free, for example) are taken into consideration.
Please note: this programme is in Dutch.
At this moment, Baanbrekers is only available for students in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences (ISS) and Sociology. You can register by sending an email to baanbrekers@uva.nl.
If you're not in one of these study programmes but you're interested in Baanbrekers, please complete this form (in Dutch only): I'm interested in Baanbrekers for my study programme
You'll receive an email once Baanbrekers becomes available for your study programme.
As a first-generation student, it can be extra daunting to attend university. You mightn't know how certain things work or have have the same experiences as the students around you.
This programme helps you, as a first-generation student, to find your place within your field of study and in academia. Your unique perspective on science, scholarship and our university is very important! The programme also helps you to make new friends and develop your talents.
