This workshop will first cover the concept of georeferencing. This method will be applied to the more advanced program QGIS. Finally, we will consider how to use this method and this programs for a thesis or paper research project.

After completing this workshop, you are able to:

    • Integrate a database into QGIS.
    • Warp (historical) maps over a modern map in QGIS (georeferencing).
    • Visualize your own data on a map.
    • Use (historical) maps and their data for a thesis or paper research.

What you need to do beforehand

Please bring your own laptop to this workshop. We kindly ask you to install the following program before the workshop: QGIS. We would also like to ask you to create an account for Google (if you don’t already have one) in advance.
