Admission to the Master

If you are a student at UvA Economics and Business and would like to continue with a Master’s programme, you'll have to meet the admission requirements for the Master of your choice.

Nederlandstalige informatie

Complete information on the admission process can be found below. Frequently asked questions and answers are provided in the FAQ.

What is a statement of admission?

UvA Economics and Business needs to issue what is referred to as a statement of admission in order for you to be admitted to a Master’s programme.

The ‘Statement of Admission to the Master’ is a statement that is issued internally by UvA Economics and Business and used to inform the Central Student Administration that you meet the admission requirements for the Master.

The Central Student Administration uses this statement to complete your enrolment at UvA.

Step-by-step guide per student group (BSc, Pre-MSc, minor, MSc)

In order to start a Master’s programme, you'll also need to take several steps yourself. We have listed these steps for you below. Please select the situation that applies to you and the corresponding steps to start with the Master of your choice.

  • I am a Bachelor's student at UvA Economics and Business

Step 1. Check if you meet the entry requirements for the Master

Check, before you enrol in the programme, if you'll meet the entry requirements before the start of the Master. Some Bachelor’s programmes do not provide direct access to the Master’s programme and require that you pass additional courses. If you would like to transfer to a Master’s programme that does not correspond to you Bachelor’s programme, you'll need to follow a separate application procedure.

For more information, please go to Overview per Bachelor's programme at transition from Bachelor to the Master.

Make sure you enrol in Studielink no later than the start of the course registration (in June (semester 1) or December (semester 2)), so you can register for your courses in time (see step 3). You don't have to register in Embark.

The Student Administration of UvA Economics and Business checks in the period between your enrolment and the start of your Master's programme if you are eligible for the Master. If you are not eligible, you will be informed as soon as possible.

    Step 3. Register for courses

Because you are already a student at UvA Economics and Business, you are personally responsible for arranging your registration for Master’s courses. Register in June for your courses if you will you start with your Master's programme in September. In case you will start in February, you need to register for courses in December.

For more information, please go to course registration.

Step 4. Request your degree certificate

    • If you will start your Master's programme in September, you need to request your degree certificate before 1 August.
    • If you will start in February, you need to apply for your degree certificate before 16 January at the latest.

This applies for both cases, even if you are still finishing your courses or waiting for your final results. This enables the Student Administration of UvA Economics and Business to check if you meet the entry requirements for the Master’s programme.

For more information, please go to graduation and requesting a degree certificate.

Step 5. The Student Administration checks if you meet the entry requirements

As soon as the Student Administration has determined that you will be able to graduate before the start of your Master's programme and that you are eligible for the Master based on your previous education, your ‘Statement of Admission’ will be issued. This will be issued based on an internal procedure for which you do not have to take action.

If you do not meet the entry requirements (in time), you will be informed as soon as possible. In that case your request for enrolment in Studielink will be rejected.

In addition to meeting the entry requirements, you'll also need to arrange several other matters in order to complete your enrolment in Studielink, such as arranging your tuition fee payment.

The Central Student Administration (CSA) will inform you about this. When your enrolment is completed, you can start your Master.
