Apply for your student ID card
Please note: Applying for your student ID card doesn't mean you have finalised your enrolment. Always check the status of your enrolment in SIS.
How to apply for a student ID card
- You can apply for your student ID card 1 month before the start of your studies. To do this, you need a UvAnetID.
- Check your name in SIS. Is your name incorrect? Read how you can change your first name or surname.
- Go to mijnuvapas.nl and upload a passport photo. You'll need to use a laptop or desktop computer for this.
- Trouble uploading your photo? Send an email, including your photo, UvAnetID and date of birth, to servicedesk-fs@uva.nl.
Apply for your card on time
Before 3 September/3 February
- If you apply for your student ID card before 3 September (or 3 February for programmes starting in February), it will be sent to your home address.
- If you haven't received your student ID card by 14 September (7 February), then visit a UvA service point or contact the Facility Services Service Desk.
After 3 September/3 February
If you apply for your student ID card after 3 September (3 February for programmes starting in February), we'll contact you through your UvA email address to let you know your card can be picked up at one of the UvA service points. Please bring your proof of identity with you.
Foreign address
We don't send student ID cards to addresses outside the Netherlands. If you provided a foreign address, we'll contact you through your UvA mail address (not your personal email!) letting you know when you can pick up your new student ID card at one of the UvA service points. Please bring a valid proof of identity.
What can I use my student ID card for?
You'll need to activate your student ID card before you can use it. After that, you can use it to:
- identify yourself for study programmes and study centres at all UvA locations (you only need a valid ID, passport or driving licence in order to take part in examinations)
- borrow books from the University Library
- gain access to bicycle parking facilities and parking garages
- receive discounts at the University Sports Centre (USC), CREA and other places (musea, cinemas, Artis ZOO and Athenaeum Bookstore
