Individuals with chronic mental and physical illnesses face differential stereotypical beliefs and reactions in the workplace. An experimental vignette study was carried out in order to better understand how individuals taking an absence from work are perceived when their absence cause is either mental or physical. Especially with invisible chronic illnesses (where symptoms are not always obvious) it is noteworthy to understand whether the strategy of communicating the reason for their absence makes a difference.
