I wanted to join the Student Council because I was talking super often about how certain things were organised badly at the university, and instead of just talking, I wanted to do something! In particular, I wanted to work for more student participation, improved accessibility on campus, and more focus on minorities.
As chairman, I am a point of contact for the other councillors and run our weekly meeting. I am always there to help think about strategies and goals and direct people where necessary. In addition, I am our external representation to other councils and organisations. I get a lot of satisfaction from having fun conversations with the many interesting people walking around the university and really enjoy networking and creating collaborations. Connecting people with each other is my favourite task as chairman.
Very informative! I have experienced a lot of personal development, especially in the areas of leadership and organisation. I have also met a lot of nice people and discovered that my interests are much broader than just studying and my studies. You have an awful lot of opportunities as a Council and you can shape your time in it as you like!
I learned a lot about how the university is structured and the importance of student input on regulations and policy-making! As a student, you do have a say in your study environment and it is up to the FSR to make sure it is listened to.
If you feel like you’d want to be on the Student Council next year, please read up on how you can stand as a candidate.
