Step 1: Which minor would you like to take?
It is important to familiarise yourself with the options. An overview of all the minors offered by the UvA can be found here. Once you have chosen a minor, assess whether you meet the entry requirements. Some minors have an application deadline and/or limited capacity. For this reason, please make sure to consider the options and apply for admission in good time. You may also be required to ask your own degree programme's Examinations Board for permission to take a minor.

Step 2: When you have been admitted, enrol as an elective student through Studielink
For non-UvA students
If you are a Bachelor's student at a anothe Dutch research university or university of applied sciences, you must enrol as an elective student through Studielink before the start of the course registration period. You cannot proceed to Step 4 without being enrolled as an elective student. Depending on the minor that you wish to take, enrol in the following degree programme:
- Actuarial Science > enrol as a elective student in the Actuarial Science degree programme.
- Econometrics and Mathematical Economics > enrol as a elective student in the Econometrics degree programme.
- Macroeconomics: International and Monetary Economics/Microeconomics: Markets and Organisations/Economics: Transition Minor/Sustainability and Economics > enrol as a elective student in the Economics and Business Economics degree programme.
- For all other minors, you should enrol as a elective student in the Business Administration degree programme.
For UvA students
If you are an UvA student, make sure that you stay enrolled in your Bachelor's while taking the minor. No further action in Studielink is required on your part.

Step 3: Apply for admission through the application form so your potential admission can be assessed
Apply for admission to the minor using the online application form. You can find this form on the minor page on uva.nl/minoraanbod.
The Student Administration will assess you application and consult the minor coordinator if applicable. You will receive a decision on your admission by email. Processing your application for admission may take up to 10 working days. You will not be able to register for courses in the meantime; see Step 4. Would you like to be sure that you will be able to start the minor? Make sure that you apply for admission before the start of the course registration period. For UvA students we advise to apply before 1 June and for non-UvA students we advise to apply before 15 May.
-
Step 4: Check the course registration procedure for your minor
If you wish to take part in a degree programme, you must have a valid course registration. As a minor student, registering for courses will usually be your own responsibility. More information about course registration will be shared in the admissions email.
If you have any problems registering for courses, please contact the Education Desk as soon as possible.

Step 5: Complete your minor
Upon completing your minor and once all your grades have been registered in SIS, you can request a minor certificate listing the minor courses through the Digital Student Service Desk. You can choose to collect it from the Education Desk fifteen days later or have it sent to you by post.
If you have any questions, please contact the Education Desk or read the FAQ.
