What is your study programme?

Tuition fees come in two types: statutory tuition fees and the institutional tuition fees. The amount you will pay in tuition depends on:

  • your nationality;
  • the programme on which you enrol;
  • whether you are a full-time or part-time student (applies only to the statutory tuition fees).

Everyone who is enrolled in higher education in the 2021-2022 academic year will pay lower tuition fees than usual. The Dutch government has decided, under the National Education Programme, to reduce the financial burden on students during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Statutory tuition fees for 2021-2022

Full-time students
€ 1.084
Part-time students
€ 923
Dual students
€ 1.084
AUC students
€ 3.476
PPLE students
€ 3.252

These statutory tuition fees apply for Dutch students, as well as students from other countries within the European Economic Area (EEA), the EU, Switzerland and Suriname, provided they meet the statutory criteria.

Fees for first-year students

First-year students who have not previously been enrolled in higher education pay only half of the tuition fees. For full-time students, this is €542. All criteria can be found on the website of the Dutch government.External link

Fees for students who start in February

Tuition fees apply to one full academic year. If you start in February, you will pay 7/12 of the tuition fee which applies in your case.

Second degree programme in healthcare or education

If you already attained a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the Netherlands and now wish to do a second Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme in healthcare or education, you will pay the statutory tuition fee (€1,084). This does not apply if:

  • your first Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is a degree in healthcare or education; or
  • you are not a national of an EEA country or EU member state, Switzerland or Suriname.

In those cases, you will pay the institutional tuition fee.

Institutional tuition fee: for students to whom the statutory fee does not apply

You will pay the institutional tuition fee:

  • if you are not a national of an EEA country or EU member state, Switzerland or Suriname;
  • if you are going to do a second Bachelor’s degree programme after attaining a Bachelor’s degree in the Netherlands;
  • if you are going to do a second Master’s degree programme after attaining a Master’s degree in the Netherlands, except if the Master’s you are going to do is in healthcare or education, in which case you will pay the statutory tuition fee (€1,084);
  • if you do not meet all conditions for one of the UvA’s transitional arrangements. Details of these arrangements can be found in the Enrolment Provisions.External link

The institutional tuition fee is the same for full-time and part-time students.
