I have autism. Figuring out what someone feels or means when they don’t say it outright can be a challenge. That’s why I prefer working in groups with friends from my degree programme — people I know well. That’s often allowed too, which is great.
In my first week, I arranged with the study adviser that I can wear earplugs during exams, otherwise I get distracted all the time.
To students or prospective students facing similar challenges, I’d say: figure out what works for you, what kind of support you’d like, and what helps you. You have to ask for that support yourself — but people can help you do that too.
