Your enrolment termination date is always the first day of the month that follows your graduation date. If you graduate in November, for example, but don’t terminate your enrolment via Studielink until January, your enrolment will be terminated retroactively on 1 December. Any excess tuition fees will automatically be refunded to you.

Step-by-step instructions for terminating your enrolment on graduation

What changes after your enrolment is terminated?

Once you have terminated your enrolment at the UvA:

  • you can no longer register your ECTS credits. If you took an exam or submitted an assignment before your termination date, the credits can still be processed. This is because credits are registered based on the exam date or the assignment deadline. After terminating your enrolment, you can no longer take exams or resits. If you did not pass a course, you will need to take it again if you re-enrol later.
  • you can no longer apply for your degree certificate
  • you will no longer be eligible for a student grant/loan or a student public transport pass
  • you cannot take courses at another institution based on Proof of Paid Tuition Fees (in Dutch: BBC)

You can continue to use your UvAnetID and the UvA’s facilities for 90 days after terminating your enrolment. You can use your student ID card for six more weeks after terminating your enrolment. This means, for instance, that you can no longer enter the Vendelstraat library, as it uses access gates.

UvA email address will remain active for 3 months

You can continue to send and receive emails for 3 months after terminating your enrolment. After that, your account will be closed and you'll no longer have access to the UvA's digital environment. We advise you to download important documents within this 3-month period and save them in a private environment.
