Clear choices and concrete ambitions will make the UvA future-proof. These will be laid down in a new Institutional Plan for the coming years: the UvA strategy.

Technological, climatic, geopolitical, cultural and socio-economic shifts present major challenges for science. As a socially engaged university, the UvA wants to continue practising high-level science while also actively contributing to solving today’s and tomorrow’s urgent and complex problems. How do we operate within this field of tension, and how do we bring these two aims together?

Timeline

The new UvA strategy will provide direction in addressing these questions. This is the timeline for developing the strategy:

  • 2025: Building blocks collected through discussions, themed sessions and surveys.
  • Q1 2026: Elaboration and testing of concrete ambitions for the coming years through discussions and meetings with staff, students and external stakeholders.
  • Q2 2026: The Executive Board adopts the strategy.
  • Q3 2026 and beyond: Faculty-level elaboration of the UvA strategy.

Foundations of the new strategy

During the discussions held in the course of 2025, an updated wording of the UvA’s mission was established and three core values were selected to take centre stage. Four overarching ambitions were also defined. In close collaboration with staff and students, these will be further developed into concrete lines of action for the coming years.
