Grants for student activities

UvA student associations and study associations seeking financial support for an initiative can apply to Student Project Fund. The Amsterdam University Fund (AUF) also offers grants for various student projects.

Student Project Fund

Does your activity need a bit of financial assistance? Student Project Fund (SPF, formally known as Stichting Toekenningen) provides grants to intiatives by UvA students. 

• Preference is given to new or one-off initiatives that wouldn't take place otherwise. 
• You can also apply for a grant to set up a new student organisation.

Contribution from the Amsterdam University Fund for student activities

Study associations and student associations and other organisations planning a project, event, trip or other activity for students can apply for a financial contribution from the UvA Fund.

Criteria

To be eligible for a grant, the activity must:

• be organised by a study association, student association, or other student organisation
• have a clear connection to the UvA
• provide added value for UvA students
• offer added value in the areas of science, education, culture and/or sports
• not be a mandatory part of the degree programme

Are you applying for a grant for group trips? In this case, the group must consist of at least 10 participants. Under this program, the UvA Fund does not provide grants for travel by airplane.

Amount of the grant

• You may apply for a maximum of €5,000.
• In principle, your request may not exceed 50% of the total budget

The grant will be disbursed only after the financial report has been received and approved. If the financial report differs from the application, the grant amount may be adjusted.

Preparing your application

First, gather all the attachments (as PDF files) required for your application:

• a letter of motivation explaining why the activity was chosen, how the activity will benefit UvA students, and the expected number of participants
• a detailed project plan or programme
• a detailed budget (xlsx)External link 
• a letter of recommendation from a faculty member or other staff member affiliated with the UvA, confirming the activity’s relevance to UvA students.

Deadlines

There are four application rounds per year. Submit your application by:

• 4 October 2026 for activities taking place after November 2026
• 22 November 2026, for activities taking place after February 2027
• 1 February 2027, for activities taking place after April 2027
• 24 May 2027 for activities taking place after August 2027 

About three weeks after the deadline, you will be notified about whether your application has been approved.

Create an account in the application systemExternal link. Fill out the application form and attach the supporting documents. Both the form and the supporting documents may be submitted in Dutch or English.

Final report

After the activity, you are required to submit a final report via the application system. You can find more information about this in the grant award letter.
