Rights and obligations

If you rent accommodation, you have various legal rights.

For example, you can apply for housing benefit for a lot of accommodation and there is generally a maximum rent. The maximum rent is determined on the basis of the housing evaluation system (Woningwaarderingsstelsel, WWS).

Rental contract

When you sign a rental contract, it is not possible to charge costs without good reason. For example, people are not allowed to charge broker fees and you also do not have to pay key money. You should, therefore, first look for more information about what you can do if you do end up paying for a room. Terminating a contract is also subject to many rules. A landlord cannot, for example, evict you from your home without good reason, even if you have a temporary contract.

Never accept housing without seeing it and make sure you are aware of rent regulations. You can find more information about the various aspects of the rent regulations via the links below.
