‘UvA’ Wi-Fi network will be switched off: move to eduroam

Published on 02-07-2026
From 1 August, the University of Amsterdam will switch off the ‘UvA’ Wi-Fi network at all teaching and research locations. From that date, the ‘UvA’ network will no longer appear in the list of available Wi-Fi networks. Eduroam will become the standard Wi-Fi network for all students and staff. This will make the wireless network simpler and more future-proof.

Switch to eduroam now

Are you still using the ‘UvA’ network on your laptop or phone? If so, you can switch to eduroam now:

  1. Open the list of available Wi-Fi networks on your laptop or phone
  2. Select eduroam
  3. Log in with your UvA account (username and password)

In most cases, you only need to do this once. After that, your device will automatically connect to eduroam at all UvA locations, as well as at other educational institutions in the Netherlands and abroad.

Instructions for setting up eduroam

If you are unable to connect using the steps above, you can reset your Wi-Fi profile via wifiportal.uva.nlExternal link. On student.uva.nl, under Topics > Wi-Fi, you will find detailed instructions and practical steps for setting up and using eduroam.
