A team of 4 Bachelor's students from UvA Economics and Business (EB) has won the 2026 Sydney International Business Competition (SIBC). The competition, organised by the University of Sydney, took place from July 19 through 24 and brought together 12 teams from top international universities in Asia, Europe, and North America.

Overall champions after reaching 2 finals
The UvA team, consisting of Jisoo Park, Finn Lewis, Shayan Shakeri, and Patryk Drab-Grotowski, competed under the guidance of Case Club President Cristina Martín Galilea. The students participated in 2 cases: a 6-hour case for Amnesty International and a 24-hour case for Caption by Hyatt.
Under intense time pressure, they developed innovative and practically feasible solutions to complex business challenges. In both cases, the UvA team finished first in its division, qualifying for the finals. There, too, they impressed with their strategic clarity and emphasis on implementation, which ultimately resulted in the title 'Overall Champions of the Sydney International Business Competition 2026.'

Participation in the SIBCExternal link is part of the Case Club’sExternal link activities within the Sefa student association, with Professor Hans BorgmanExternal link serving as faculty advisor. The victory in Sydney builds on previous strong performances by UvA EB student teams this academic year, including in Aarhus (Denmark), Hong Kong, and Montreal (Canada).
