Think of each other: the UvA campus is smoke-free
Also in the area around the Roeterseiland campus, there is a focus on maintaining a smoke-free environment. Through the Smoke-free Roetersstraat initiative, local residents are asking people not to smoke in the street, due to the nuisance caused by smoke and cigarette butts.
In addition, smoking on educational premises is not permitted by law. By not smoking on UvA premises, you contribute to a healthy, smoke-free environment for everyone and show that we think of each other.
Why we keep emphasising this
The UvA has been smoke-free since 2020, in line with Dutch law. We communicate this through signs, posters, narrowcasting and social media. But we’ve noticed that people are still smoking on campus, and we’ve heard that it bothers others.
That’s why we continue to draw attention to the fact that our campuses are smoke-free. Ultimately, it’s about how we treat one another and about being mindful of each other’s health and comfort.
What you can do
Do you smoke? Please consider the people around you and leave the campus to smoke. Have you seen someone smoking on campus? A friendly reminder can help. Have you been approached about your smoking? Treat the other person with respect and remember that smoking on campus is not allowed.
Thank you for your cooperation and for being considerate of one another.
