Although the number of study places has not decreased since the opening of the new University Library, it is very busy during exam weeks. Therefore, the faculty is looking into ways to offer more study spaces during those busy periods. From the next exam period, the Faculty of Humanities will make extra study spaces available in the Kartini Room in the Bushuis and possibly also in some lecture rooms. In addition, on the initiative of the Faculty Student Council, the possibility of creating extra study spaces in the weekends preceding exam weeks is being investigated.

The former library space in the P.C. Hoofthuis

Since the University Library left the P.C. Hoofthuis, the space has been empty, which many students see as undesirable. However, during the refurbishment of the P.C. Hoofthuis, additional safety requirements were imposed. Therefore, it is currently not possible to offer additional study spaces in the former library space.

The faculty is still investigating alternative possibilities for a new use of the former library space. The opinions of students and other users of the building will be taken into account as much as possible. For instance, as part of the course Placemaking, students and staff have come up with ideas for the former library space such as a swap market. Due to new safety requirements, additional study spaces in the P.C. Hoofthuis cannot be set up without extensive renovation.

More information

As soon as there is more clarity on developments regarding the number of study spaces or possible solutions regarding the former library space in the P.C. Hoofthuis, a new notice will follow.
