On Wednesday, 9 September, public transport in the Netherlands will not operate. The Federation of Dutch Trade Unions (FNV) is organising a nationwide, 24-hour public transport strike. This may cause disruption if you want to travel to the UvA.

With this action, FNV and employees in public transport and on the railways are protesting against the government's plans to cut social security. In September, the FNV will communicate the exact start and end times of the 24-hour strike.

Teaching will continue

Lectures, tutorials and other forms of education will go ahead, unless your (degree) programme has communicated otherwise. Please follow the information from your programme closely via Canvas.

Compulsory attendance

Are you unable to travel to the UvA due to the strike? How this is handled, may differ by degree programme and teaching method. Your degree programme will communicate about this via Canvas. The information on Canvas takes precedence.

Please note:

  • For practicals and clinical rotations, the regular compulsory attendance rules will continue to apply. Unless your degree programme communicates otherwise via Canvas.
  • When teaching continues online, the regular compulsory attendance requirement still applies, unless indicated otherwise via Canvas.

Latest information on the strike

Please keep a close eye on the NS and GVB travel planners for the latest information.
