Nationwide strike affecting urban and regional public transport on 22 October

Published on 19-10-2026 16:44
On Thursday 22 October 2026, urban and regional public transport services will be on strike across the Netherlands. This may cause disruption if you're travelling to the UvA. We hope the impact will be limited because NS trains and Amsterdam's city transport will continue running.

Trade unions CNV and FNV are organising this strike because negotiations on the collective labour agreement have reached an impasse.

City transport in Amsterdam and NS trains running as usual

  • City buses, trams and metros in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague will continue to operate.
  • NS trains will also be operating.

Teaching and exams will continue

Lectures, seminars and other forms of teaching will go ahead as planned

  • If anything changes (for example, if your lecture moves to online instead of on campus), you’ll find this information in Canvas.
  • When planning your journey, please allow for possible cancellations and extra travel time.

More strikes in the upcoming weeks

The trade unions have announced that they will continue weekly strikes in the upcoming weeks and will announce 48 hours in advance on which day this will be. If you depend on regional public transport, make sure to check your transport operator’s travel planner.
