Lecturers awarded UvA Education Awards 2026
Thank you to all the students who submitted nominations!
In May 2026, students and staff submitted over 1,300 nominations for the 2026 UvA Education Awards. A total of 123 courses and teaching teams were nominated, along with 426 individual lecturers. The jury reviewed all the nominations before awarding an Education Award to the following lecturers (and teams):
Gina Hindriks
Dr Gina Hindriks was awarded the UvA Education Award for activating teaching. She teaches at the Amsterdam Law School.
Students praised her positive attitude, her well-structured lessons and the way she integrates current topics into her teaching. Students also said that her teaching encourages them to question and that they enjoy attending her lessons. Here’s what students said about Gina Hindriks’ teaching:
Kevin Pahm
Dr Kevin Pham was awarded the UvA Education Award for inclusive education. He teaches at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Science (FMG).
Students highlighted his genuine engagement, clear explanations and infectious way of teaching. He manages to make the theoretical and somewhat intimidating first-year course 'History of Political Thought' accessible and relevant to a large and above all diverse group of students. Students described his lectures as inspiring, carefully structured and interactive: a space where they are motivated to join the discussion, ask questions and develop an interest in political theory. Here’s what students said about Kevin Pham’s teaching:
Collective Futures
The teaching team of Collective Futures was awarded the Education Award for innovative education. Collective Futures is a minor for Master's students at the Faculty of Science (FNWI).
In Collective Futures, students take a transdisciplinary approach to current and pressing social issues, in a format that alternates between group work and individual work and culminates in concrete outputs. Peer learning, challenge-based education, guest speakers from the field and intensive coaching are brought together as a cohesive whole. Here’s what students said about Collective Futures:
Cariology and Oral Biology
The teaching team for the course Cariology and Oral Biology (Faculty of Dentistry/ACTA) received the Education Award for collaborative teaching.
This course demonstrates what collaboration among lecturers can achieve over several years. The course has been carefully revised with constructive alignment as its guiding principle, and four different subject areas have been brought together. As a result, students learn to understand the development and treatment of caries in context rather than as separate elements. Team-Based Learning, tutorial groups and a substantial number of practicals ensure that students are constantly learning with and from one another. Here’s what students said about Cariology and Oral Biology:
