Investigation into damage at the front facade of LAB42
The building remains open. A number of safety measures have been taken. The main entrance can be accessed by following the route under the canopy, across the terrace. Until we know what caused the damage, the operation of the sunshades will be temporarily switched off as a precaution.
Facility Services will keep the faculty informed about progress. Updates on the situation will be shared in this news item.
Update 17 March 2026
The inspection of the façade and sunshades has now taken place. The damage appears to be localised. The twisted sunshade has been temporarily secured; a permanent repair will follow. The other façade panels and sunshades have been inspected and found to be in good condition. The fencing around the previously cordoned-off area will be removed over the course of the day.
The damage was most likely caused by the storm on Sunday evening. Facility Services is setting up a preventive process with additional measures for severe weather conditions and is preparing further repair work on the façade panel and the sunshade.
Until the repair has been fully completed, the operation of the sunshades will remain switched off as a precaution.
