Interview student assessor 2026 Loes Broekhuijsen
Can you briefly introduce yourself?

I am studying Natural and Social Sciences (Bèta-gamma in Dutch) with a major in Physics. The broad, interdisciplinary nature of Bèta-Gamma greatly appealed to me when I enrolled in this programme, and it is still something I am very enthusiastic about. Additionally, I am active in the student association Spectrum, where I have been part of various committees.
Why did you apply to become a student assessor?
Administrative affairs have always interested me. I follow politics closely and am greatly intrigued by issues where decisions need to be made that affect many people. What is best for the collective? And to what extent do we accept that sacrifices often have to be made?
How does the role of student assessor align with your passions and ambitions as a student at the Faculty of Science?
During my studies, I developed a growing affinity with the UvA, particularly with Science Park. I am often found here and truly feel at home. Therefore, I sought a way to contribute here and to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes. In the role of student assessor, I found that opportunity.
What goals do you have for your term as a student assessor? How do you hope your contribution will influence the overall experience and satisfaction of students at the Faculty of Science?
I believe that many things are already going well at Science Park. I mainly hope that students will know where to find me if they want to share something about the faculty. By attending meetings with the Faculty Student Council (FSR), the Programme Committees, and the chairs of the student associations, I also want to provide a perspective to the management team that is based on the experiences of many more students than just my own.
What are the first steps you plan to take to orient yourself on current affairs at the Faculty of Science? How do you intend to represent the needs and interests of students?
Initially, I will mainly ask questions and listen. Of course, to people in administrative positions, but especially to my fellow students. Since I made many friends during the first year of Bèta-Gamma and we then went in different directions, I hear many stories about how things are going in other programmes. I think this will help me greatly in forming a broad and general picture of what is happening among students at Science Park.
