Extra study spaces during exam periods thanks to Central Student Council

Published on 08-04-2026
The Central Student Council (CSR) has taken an important step for UvA students during exam week. Following reports that the University Library is structurally overcrowded during the exam period, the CSR took action by sending a letter to the Executive Board (CvB) requesting additional study spaces by opening a building in the University Quarter.

During a meeting between the CSR and the CvB, this request was discussed. The CvB responded positively and promised that the Bushuis will be opened on weekends during the exam week. This meets the growing need among students for quiet and accessible study spaces.

The role of the Central Student Council has been crucial in this process. By actively collecting signals from the student population and translating them into concrete proposals, the CSR has directly influenced the university’s policy. This outcome underscores the importance of student representation and shows that student voices are heard at the administrative level.

With the opening of the Bushuis on weekends, the pressure on the University Library is expected to decrease and more students will have the opportunity to prepare properly for their exams. The CSR will continue to work to improve study conditions for all students and calls on students to keep sharing their experiences and bottlenecks.
