Exam period 16-26 March: extended opening hours and extra study spaces

Published on 05-03-2026
During the exam period, the Library is open longer. The Library (UB) in the University Quarter is open until 01:00 AM, also at weekends, and is exclusively accessible for UvA students. From 23 to 26 March, almost 300 extra study spaces will be available on Roeterseiland Campus. Want to know where there is still room? Check the Officebooking app for free spots and join guided study sessions.

Weekend opening hours

During the weekend of 21 and 22 March, the library locations will be open extra long. The UB Library will be open from 08:30 to 01:00. The Library Learning Centre on Roeterseiland (REC H) is accessible on all three floors from 09:00 to 22:00, and at Science Park 904 you can visit from 09:00 to 20:00. So there are extra opportunities to study quietly over the exam weekend.

Science Park is ideal for avoiding the crowds. There are 500 study places in building SP904 and more than 225 in LAB42. There are also extra opportunities outside lectures: the lecture rooms are then available as study areas.

From 23 to 26 March, 270 extra study places will be added in building J/K on Roeterseilandcampus: lecture rooms on the ground floor and in the basement will be converted to study rooms. The rooms in question are JKTB16, JKTB18, JKTB20, JKTB22, JKTB24, JKTB39, JKB52, JKB46 and JKB58.

Want to study with maximum focus?

Every day from 10:00 to 22:00, you can study with fellow students in a quiet environment, guided by a host who keeps track of the Pomodoro timer and schedule. There is also a focus on relaxation to reduce stress. The sessions will take place in REC H, room H1.01 on Roeterseiland campus, or online via Microsoft Teams. Put it in your calendarExternal link already!

Tightened house rules

During exam periods, the University Library and - at weekends - the Library Learning Centre (REC) are only accessible to UvA students with a valid student pass. Students from other universities are not allowed in then. One house rule in particular applies here: you may never occupy an extra study spot for another student.

Make use of the underground cycle shed of the UB on Vendelstraat and the cycle shed on Roeterseiland. Don't park your bike on the street. There is plenty of space and your bike is dry and guarded.
