Data breach at supplier of Canvas, still unclear if it also involves UvA data.
It has not yet been confirmed whether data of UvA students and employees has been affected. Questions are still pending with the vendor to clarify this.
What is known?
Instructure has reported that there has been unauthorized access to part of their systems. Based on initial information, the following data may have been captured: student and staff names, e-mail addresses (both work and private), student IDs and messages between users.
It is not clear at this time whether this data also relates to the University of Amsterdam.
What does this mean for you?
We understand that news like this may raise questions or concerns. Although it has not yet been established that our environment has been affected, we want to inform you about this in advance. The UvA is also in close contact with other educational institutions that also use Canvas and is actively monitoring the situation.
We advise you to be extra alert for suspicious e-mails, for example messages that arrive unexpectedly or ask for personal data. You can still use Canvas, but because of this situation, emergency maintenance is being performed by our supplier Instructure. As a result, not all pages on Canvas are accessible. You will get this message.

On services.uva.nl there is more information about this. On this site we will also provide regular updates about this incident.
How to proceed.
We are monitoring the situation closely. As soon as there is more clarity, we will provide an update on the student and employee sites and on services.uva.nl.
