Cycling to a lecture or the library? Park your bike in the bicycle shed!

Since the opening of the new University Library, the area has regularly been crowded with parked bicycles. As the bike racks and pavements are full, there is less space for pedestrians. To improve the organisation of bicycle parking, the municipality, the UvA and local residents have agreed that users of the area, including students, should park their bicycles in the bicycle shed where possible.

To reduce pressure on public spaces, please park your bicycle in the University Library’s bicycle shed. This bicycle shed is easily accessible and offers plenty of space to park your bicycle safely and out of the rain. By using the bicycle shed, together, we can keep the area around the University Library safe, accessible and pleasant for everyone.

Improvements in the neighbourhood

The City of Amsterdam is working on various measures to organise bicycle parking better. For example, existing bike racks are being rearranged or replaced in some areas, so that bicycles can be parked more neatly and pavements remain accessible. In addition, the UvA will improve signage and communication regarding the bicycle shed in order to make it easier to find.
