Additional contemplation rooms available during Ramadan

Published on 29-01-2026
Many students use contemplation rooms and occasionally there are peak periods of high demand. During upcoming peak period Ramadan, the UvA will provide two additional contemplation rooms. With this decision, the UvA follows advice by the Central Diversity Office.

The following extra quiet rooms will be available from 17 February to 20 March:

  • Roeterseilandcampus B/C/D B3.11
  • Science Park D1.160

There are a few guidelines to consider:

  • The contemplation rooms are accessible to everyone and are not segregated by gender or other characteristics.
  • You may bring your own prayer mat into the room, but you need to take it with you when you leave. Personal belongings may not be left behind in the contemplation room.
  • Contemplation rooms may be used simultaneously by multiple people for different forms of reflection or sensory relief. Please treat each other with respect and make space for everyone.

Ramadan and Iftar

This year, Ramadan begins on 17 February and ends on 19 or 20 March with Eid al-Fitr. Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims, marked by fasting from sunrise to sunset, as well as reflection and prayer.

On Tuesday 3 March, the Central Diversity Office, together with Kompas students and the Arab Student Association Amsterdam, will organise an Iftar at the Brug. Sign up hereExternal link.
