The NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority) monitors smoking on educational premises and fines the UvA for any violations. These fines can amount to tens of thousands of euros – money we'd rather invest in your education.
With posters, sidewalk tiles and signs, we're letting people know that the campus is a smoke-free zone. Research shows that most UvA students and staff are aware that smoking around UvA buildings is prohibited. However, some people still ignore the smoking ban.
If you smoke in an area where it's prohibited, you may receive a warning from a security guard. If necessary, the security guard may write down your details. Please be respectful, don't argue and follow the instructions.
Thank you for your cooperation. We’re counting on you!
