Since this summer, Roetersstraat has been ‘smoke-free’. This initiative was started by Residents of Amsterdam (Bewoners Amsterdam).

Tiles placed in the pavement indicate that you are expected not to smoke on the street. With this, the street becomes the first ‘smoke-free’ street in Amsterdam. It is not an officially imposed smoking ban, but a friendly request because residents are bothered by the smoke and the cigarette butts on the ground.
