The current Digitorium next to the Medical Library will be transformed into a warm meeting space with various layouts. There are study places to work alone, work together in a duo or consult with large groups. This student lounge will get a new entrance so that you can walk in directly from the study square instead of via the Medical Library.
K01-222, K01-222-1 and the L0 classrooms will get new floors, walls, lighting, technology and new furniture. In the KO1 classrooms and a number of L0 classrooms, the new camera and sound system can bring the outside world inside. Additional screens in these classrooms ensure that the conversation, for example with a doctor or researcher abroad, can also be followed at the back. This contributes to the idea of also achieving internationalisation in-house.
There will be 60 additional study places in the corridors of building sections J, K and L, including in the niches in the corridors. The current furniture in the study square will be reupholstered and trees and plants will provide additional decoration for the public space. In the corridor in front of lecture hall 1, the new high tables with bar stools and planters create a cosy coffee corner. This layout can also be used for events. In addition, the faculty will be equipped with a number of water taps both inside and outside. And it is good to know that all new tables in the classrooms, study places and the Digitorium have a USB (C) connection.
Various surveys have shown that students are currently experiencing a shortage of study places. In addition, some rooms were in need of renovation in terms of light, furniture and decoration. The faculty is therefore pleased that, after thorough coordination and preparation with the Housing Real Estate & Technology department of Amsterdam UMC and the faculty Student Council, the modernization will start.
