Library Singel closing: find your summer study spaces
With the closure of the University Library at Singel, it’s good to know that sufficient alternatives are available. The Library remains open across several campuses, with Roeterseiland offering quiet and spacious study areas during the summer. For students who live closer by, Science Park is an excellent alternative. Additionally, the P.C. Hoofthuis in the University Quarter remains an option: on the ground floor, you’ll find the Library Learning Space with 127 study spaces.
Overview of available study places on weekdays:

Roeterseiland campus:
- REC H: 868 spaces
- REC B/C: 338 spaces
- REC JK: 168 spaces
Other locations:
- Science Park 904: 696 spaces (also open at the weekend)
- LAB42: 241 spaces
- P.C. Hoofthuis (ground floor): 127 spaces
Want to know if your favorite spot is free?
Officebooking provides a clear overview of all available study spaces within the UvA. You also need this tool to reserve a study cabin or project room. We recommend installing the Officebooking app on your phone.
Please note: Summer opening hours start on Monday, 7 July. On the first weekend ,12 and 13 July, REC-H and Science Park 904 will be open due to the resit period. For the most up-to-date information on opening hours, visit the study spaces page.

What does this mean for borrowing books?
In preparation for the opening of the new University Library at Vendelstraat, the printed collection for the humanities is temporarily unavailable due to the move. From 1 September, the collection, which was previously spread across the Singel location and the P.C. Hoofthuis, will be combined in the new library. More than five kilometers of bookshelves will be available there.
During the summer, you can pick up and return requested materials at other library locations. This also applies to external borrowers. When you place a request via CataloguePlus, you will see where you can collect the materials.
