Dutch Sign Language enables deaf and people who have trouble hearing to participate fully in society. Learning Dutch Sign Language often costs money as well as time. The CDO has made a Grassroots Fund available so that you can take Dutch Sign Language lessons online for free.

Please note: this programme is in Dutch only.

Learn to sign on the TYD platform

Staff at the UvA's SignLab work closely with TYD, a platform that offers over 100 themed lessons, for example about greeting someone, films and series, and the weather. In the videos, the gestures are explained and demonstrated several times. There is also a comprehensive glossary.

SignLab and the CDO are taking part in a pilot to make this online environment available for free to all UvA students and staff. Initially there's room for 50 participants who can make unlimited use of the TYD platform for 6 months.
