Before 2022, the UvA had multiple application routes, deadlines and placement methods. This led to confusion among students and increased the workload for staff involved. Furthermore, these inconsistencies hindered the UvA’s goal of providing all students with equal opportunities to participate in an exchange programme. 

New application process 

All of the UvA's International Offices now use a unified application process. Key features include: 

• Minimum quality standards: all applications are assessed based on set criteria from both the UvA and the partner university
• Lottery instead of selection: placements are now allocated through a centralised lottery
• Three application rounds per year: in each round, you can apply for up to five destinations

Apply using an app 

You can now apply through a dedicated app. If selected in the lottery, you can accept the offered destination directly via the app. If not selected, you can participate in subsequent rounds and choose from the remaining available destinations. 

UvA World Map

The UvA World Map is now also available as an app. This tool provides an overview of all exchange destinations, including:

• Specific requirements for each destination
•  Real-time information on the popularity of destinations during each application round
