EB students work on diversity and inclusion projects

EB students work on diversity and inclusion projects

Published on 17-04-2025
Since March this year, several EB students have been working on their own diversity and inclusion projects. They were given the opportunity to propose and work out their own ideas to help achieve the diversity and inclusion values at Economics and Business (EB). We spoke with Scarlett, Kristina, Suren en Filip about their projects and why they chose this topic.

Developing an assessment tool to measure diversity & inclusion knowledge, perceptions and competencies

Scarlett: 'The aim is to provide the university with reliable data on how students think about issues such as diversity and inclusion and where improvements can be made. With concrete insights, the UvA can later implement targeted and specific initiatives. This is important because it is difficult to fully understand the experiences of others without measurable insights.'

Kristina Lazarova

Identifying and mapping small, unregistered cultural student associations

Kristina: 'My project focuses on identifying and mapping small, unregistered cultural student associations. The aim is to help international students connect with cultural associations. Many international students struggle to find associations with students from their home countries. I want to create a resource that improves the visibility and accessibility of these groups.'

Suren Avedov

Navigating the ‘hidden curriculum’ – the unspoken rules of university life

Suren: "My project looks at improving the experience of international students and students who are the first of their families to study at a university. These students often face challenges such as lack of academic guidance, social isolation and difficulties navigating the ‘hidden curriculum’. These are the unspoken rules of university life. The aim is to develop a sustainable, low-cost solution that improves their sense of belonging and access to support.'

Filip Valocký

Understanding and strengthening the sense of belonging among students at Economics and Business

Filip: 'My project focuses on understanding and strengthening the sense of belonging among students at Economics and Business Administration (EB). The feeling of being connected - to a university and to your fellow students - plays a crucial role in motivation, well-being and their overall study experience. For some students, this feeling just does not come naturally. The aim is to develop initiatives that help students integrate more easily, build meaningful relationships and feel like a valued member of the academic community.'

EB Diversity Committee

The student-led diversity and inclusion projects are an initiative of the EB Diversity Committee. The committee functions as a sounding board and can propose initiatives as well as give advice on diversity. All students will present their findings at the closing event on 8 May.
