Budget for 2026 definitively adopted
In early October, the draft budget was published, and students and staff were able to respond to it. Subsequently, the Central Works Council and the Central Student Council provided advice on the draft budget, and the budgets were finalized based on the realized study credits, diplomas, and student numbers.
2026 budget solid, multi-year major uncertainties
Like all other universities, the University of Amsterdam is facing considerable internal and external dynamics and uncertainty. In financial terms, 2026 will be an interim year with a relatively stable government grant. After 2026, a reduction follows. The budgeted result for 2026 has deteriorated compared to the draft budget to a deficit of €6.3 million due to additional budget allocations to the faculties. This limited deficit is acceptable given the financial health of the UvA. Due to the reduction after 2026, a period of measures will follow to keep the size of personnel and other costs in line with this. This financial pressure is already being felt throughout the UvA. The UvA endorses the formation effort (pdf) (letter in Dutch) of Universities of The Netherlands (UNL), which advocates for an additional structural public investment of €2.6 billion in research and development (R&D).
