What did you do after college?

'After graduating, I conducted file research at the Human Rights Board in Utrecht for several months on behalf of the 'Discrimination Monitor'. Then, I started working as a legal advisor at the CIBG in The Hague. The CIBG is an organisation that the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport is implementing. My work included providing legal advice on the WTZA, the BIG Act and the Opium Act (in the context of the Bureau for Medicinal Cannabis). Since March 2023, I have been deputy secretary at the METC Office of Amsterdam UMC. I also supervised a thesis for the Master of Health Law last academic year.'

How do you use your Health Law education in your current work?

'Research falling within the scope of the WMO must be reviewed by a recognised Medical Ethics Review Committee (METC) or, in certain cases, by the Committee on Human Subjects Research (CCMO). Non-WMO mandatory research and biobank research is reviewed under the banner of the METC Amsterdam UMC by Amsterdam UMC's non-WMO review committee (committee) and Amsterdam UMC's Biobank Review Committee (CTB). As deputy secretary, I mainly support the committee in reviewing non-WMO research. Ethics and health law laws and regulations, such as the WMO and the WGBO, play a central role in the review mentioned above. The Health Law course, therefore, comes in handy in my current position!'
