The concert opens in festive style with the sparkling overture to Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus. Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 follows: a work full of passion, romance and longing, featuring soloist Aidan Mikdad. After the interval, the orchestra performs Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 7. What begins as an innocent childhood dream soon takes on a deeper undertone. An evening that moves between celebration, romance and melancholy.

Programme

  • Johann Strauss II – Overture to Die Fledermaus
  • Sergei Rachmaninoff – Piano Concerto No. 3, with soloist Aidan Mikdad
  • Sergei Prokofiev – Symphony No. 7

Admission

The concert will start at 20:00, and the location will be open from 19:30. The programme will finish around 22:45. There will be a break.

Experience has shown that free events often result in a higher number of cancellations or no-shows. To prevent this, we have decided to sell tickets for the event. The proceeds from ticket sales will go to Sweelinck. Tickets are available until 26 November, subject to availability.

Ticket price for UvA students: €5 (including transaction costs)

Proceeds from ticket sales

Most of the proceeds from ticket sales are expected to go towards the UvA Orchestra J.Pzn Sweelinck’s education project in February 2027. A small portion may be used to restore the orchestra’s instruments.
