This study focuses on identity development among adolescents and emerging adults. It examines how parental psychological control is associated with two identity outcomes: commitment making and ruminative exploration. The study also investigates identity negotiation, meaning how young people experience and manage identity-related tensions across different social contexts. Specifically, it examines whether identity negotiation processes help explain the association between parental psychological control and identity outcomes.
